How to convert, mount and install Dungeon Siege LOA on CachyOS

Wine installs apps to /home/.wine

sudo mkdir -p /mnt/iso
sudo mount -o loop original.iso /mnt/iso

sudo umount /mnt/iso

sudo modprobe loop

To mount a disc image, it must be in .iso format.

To convert .cue/.bin files to .iso:

Install bchunk:
  • For Ubuntu/Debian/Mint:
    bash

    sudo apt install bchunk

    Use code with caution.

  • For Fedora/RHEL:
    bash

    sudo dnf install bchunk

    Use code with caution.

  • For Arch Linux:
    bash

    sudo pacman -S bchunk

    Use code with caution.

Convert the files:
Run the bchunk tool by referencing the .bin file, the .cue file, and providing a name for your new .iso file:
bash

bchunk image.bin image.cue output.iso

Use code with caution.

Mount the resulting ISO:
Create a mount directory and link the new ISO to it:
bash

sudo mkdir -p /mnt/iso
sudo mount -o loop output.iso /mnt/iso

Use code with caution.

You can now navigate to /mnt/iso to view your files.

I used sudo -i to gain root.

Next I used pacman -S bchunk to install bchunk.

I created a couple of mount points for mounting ISOs to with the following.

mkdir -p /mnt/iso
mkdir -p /mnt/iso/drive1
mkdir -p /mnt/iso/drive2
chmod -R 777 /mnt/iso
chown -R $USER:$USER /mnt/iso

Note:  For the last command, if you run it with root access, it will set it to root.  You should open another terminal window without root access.  You will likely need to add sudo in front for that to run it without root.  Alternatively, you can replace $USER with your actual user name.  Going forward, I will assume you are running a terminal from the user account you wish to set the game up under.

The actual command I used to convert the disc image to iso was:

bchunk FLT-DS1.BIN FLT-DS1.CUE FLT-DS1.iso

Rename it:

mv FLT-DS1.iso01.iso FLT-DS1.iso

Repeat the previous two steps for disc 2.

Mount disc 1:

sudo mount -o loop -t iso9660 /home/zel/Downloads/Dungeon_Siege-FLT/FLT-DS1.iso /mnt/iso/drive1/

Navigate to the mounted disc and run the setup.  When the setup asks for disc 2, unmount disc 1 and mount disc 2 in its place as such:

sudo umount /mnt/iso/drive1/

sudo mount -o loop -t iso9660 /home/zel/Downloads/Dungeon_Siege-FLT/FLT-DS2.iso /mnt/iso/drive1/

Finish the installation.

Copy the files to your Steam folder.  You can just use Dolphin or whatever file manager you have.  Keep in mind that, by default, it will have installed under a hidden wine directory under /home/.wine and steam installs to a similar hidden directory.  There should be an option to see hidden files/folders.

For reference, my Dungeon Siege wine install directory is:  /home/zel/.wine/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Microsoft Games/Dungeon Siege/

My steam one is:  /home/zel/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Dungeon Siege 1/

You can use rsync or just cp to copy the files over.  In the event that you want to be able to restore the original Steam version, make sure to rename the DungeonSiege.exe to something like DungeonSiege.exe.bak.  Once again, you can use the mv command, if you want to do it from the Terminal.

Now, you need to follow these instructions and download the fix here.

Extract the fix into the Dungeon Siege directory mentioned previously, make sure to overwrite files.

If you want to launch LOA from Steam, rename DSLOA.exe to Dungeon Siege.exe or you can do this to the GoG version as well.

Final step, run the reg patch (RegPatchDS1.bat) from the Dungeon Siege folder.folder and pick option 1.

If it doesn't "just work" there's a couple of manual methods you can try for Steam.

Using Protontricks (Easiest Method)
Install Protontricks via your Linux package manager or the Software Center (often available as a Flatpak).
Launch Protontricks and select your target game from the list.
Choose Select the default wineprefix and click OK.
Select Run regedit from the menu options.
Inside the Wine Registry Editor, click Registry in the top menu, select Import Registry File, and find and open your .reg patch. [1, 2, 3, 4]
    Using the Command Line
    Find your game's AppID in its Steam Properties or store URL.
    Open your terminal and run regedit tied to the game's compatibility path:
    bash

    STEAM_COMPAT_DATA_PATH="$HOME/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/APPID" ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Proton\ *\ */dist/bin/wine regedit

    Use code with caution.

    (Replace APPID with your game's actual number, and ensure the Proton path matches your installed version).
    Use the opened regedit interface to import your patch file.
